Our faculty was established in 1972 on the basis of the Mathematics Department of Physics and Mathematics Faculty of the former Pedagogical Institute.

Faculty task is to prepare high school teachers, teachers of secondary and higher education institutions, academic staff for research institutes and employees for computer centers, armed with sufficient theoretical and methodological training, possessing practical skills to work on commodity hard ware who know how to solve practical problems of applied character in physics, economics, etc.

At the faculty 70 teachers work, including 4 doctors of sciences, 26 candidates. Preparation of specialists is conducted in the four chairs of the faculty: chair of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, chair of Algebra, geometry and mathematical logic named after prof. T.G. Mustafin, chair of Mathematical Analysis and Differential Equations, chair of technique of teaching of mathematics and informatics.

Students of the specialty are focused on: research work in fields related to the use of Mechanics and Mathematics , the creation and use of mechanical and mathematical models for solving applied problems of science and technics by effective methods, development of the theoretical foundations of the experiment , tools, methods of planning, and treatment of the experiment , the development of software systems, bringing it to the level of practical implementation by using modern means of computer engineering; Development of algorithmic maintenance of the collection, submission, processing and using information.

A graduate of Bachelor of this specialty may hold positions related with the knowledge of mechanics, mathematics, programming, various sectors of the economy: a mathematician, programming engineer and other.

In the learning process abilities and skills of the students are formed: using system of concepts for understanding and identifying problems; programming with using modern tools; creation of technical documentation for developing information system; professional information search on the Internet and scientific periodical literature; selection of architecture and complexation of hardware of information systems; designing information systems and its elements in specific fields.

Graduates of the specialty can work at enterprises and organizations of various forms of ownership, developing, implementing and exploiting information systems in various fields of human activities in the following positions;

In the learning process attention is paid to preparing students to develop mathematical models for the physical, natural, chemical, medical, biological, and economic processes; to the application of mathematical methods for numerical calculations, for the design, management and administration of computer networks in the administrative centers, in the design, creation and management of databases, to programming in high leveled object-oriented languages; to create complex animated effects.

Graduates may take the following positions:

• specialist, leading specialist, principal engineer, software engineer in the organizational and management organizations;

• a junior researcher in the research institutes;

• in research organizations as a researcher, leading engineer or mathematician as a developer programmer mathematical models of physical -chemical and technological processes;

Dormitory is provided to nonresident students. Conditions for recreation and all kinds of sports are designed for students of the University named after EA Buketova. Student clinic and dispensary, as well as household complex serves our students. KSU named after EA Buketova has a sports complex, stadium, gym and Palace of students, ski base. During the summer holidays, students can relax in the sports camp on the shore of Topar reservoir in a recreation area Karkaralinsk, Balkhash.
